Catarratto is a white grape variety common to Sicily. It generally produces easy drinking whites but can occasionally deliver premium wines. Officially it is called Catarratto Bianco Commune and is best suited for the production of Marsala due to its propensity to oxidise.

Terra Costantino is a ten hectare estate located on the southern slopes of Etna in the commune of Viagrande. Founded in 1978 it is now one of the leaders in sustainable winery management in Sicily. Cusumano is one of the most recognisable wine brands in Sicily. They produce good wines from vineyards planted all over the island and utilise both local and international varieties.
Fazio is a medium sized family owned winery in western Sicily producing wines in the Erice DOC. With a focus on the island’s local varieties of Grillo, Catarratto and Nero d’Avola, the estate also cultivates Müller-Thurgau. They are currently one of two producers using the Erice DOC.
Cantinen Nicosia is one of the largest players in the production of wine from around Etna. Despite this they also represent one of the region’s historical treasures as well as international success stories. The wines are exported all over the world and provide Ann accessible introduction to the region.
Fischetti is known for producing good quality wines on Etna. Based just outside Caastiglione di Sicilia on the northern slopes of the volcano, the family’s restored palmento, low intervention winemaking and old bush vines make this one of the appellation’s exciting estates.
The Spadafora wine company was founded in 1993 and is known for producing high quality organic wines in the rolling hills of north west Sicily. The Spadafora name is one of the region’s historic noble family names. Today the estate is overseen by Francesco Spadafora, his wife Claudia and daughter Enrica.
